On February 11, 2026, MOHAN Foundation, in association with the Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC), Kshetrigao, and the Department of Community Medicine, Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), conducted an organ donation awareness session at Kshetri Awang Leikai, Imphal East, Manipur. The session was facilitated by Ms. Moirangthem Priya Devi and Mr. Elangbam Paringanba Singh, Program Executives, MOHAN Foundation.
The program was organized as part of the Urban Health Sanitation and Nutrition Day (UHSND). Postgraduate medical students and interns from JNIMS also participated and delivered informative sessions on the Nipah virus and febrile seizures.
Ms. Priya commenced the session by introducing the team and elaborated on the concept of organ donation, the organs that can be donated, and the difference between living and deceased donation. She emphasized that the buying and selling of organs is strictly prohibited under the law. She also addressed common religious misconceptions surrounding organ donation and provided factual clarifications to promote informed decision-making.
Participants were encouraged to register as organ donors and were reminded of the importance of communicating their decision with family members, as organ retrieval is undertaken only with family consent. She highlighted that this selfless act has the potential to save the lives of individuals suffering from end-stage organ failure.
To demonstrate the life-saving impact of organ donation, she cited a recent case at Shija Hospitals and Research Institute (SHRI), Langol, where organ donation helped preserve and improve the lives of recipients through the donor’s altruistic contribution.
Informational pamphlets were distributed to all attendees at the end of the session. Nearly 30 participants attended the program and gained a deeper understanding of how organ donation can save and transform lives.
