MOHAN Foundation Conducts Awareness Session on Organ and Tissue Donation at Keikol Makha Leikai, Imphal East

  • On March 24, 2026, MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness session on organ and tissue donation at Keikol Makha Leikai Community Hall, Imphal East, Manipur. The session was led by Ms. Moirangthem Priya Devi and Mr. Elangbam Paringanba Singh, Program Executives from MOHAN Foundation. It was organized as part of Village Health and Nutrition Day and coordinated by Ms. Naorembam Sarmila, Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM), along with staff from Ayushman Arogya Mandir, Keikol.

     

    Dr. L. Indira Devi, Chief Medical Officer, Imphal East, Government of Manipur, supervised the session. This event supports ongoing efforts to conduct regular awareness programs on deceased organ and tissue donation at health centres across the district, helping educate the public on its vital importance and life-saving impact.

     

    Ms. Priya opened the session by introducing the team and outlining the program's objectives. She explained the concept of organ and tissue donation, clearly differentiating between living and deceased donation. Highlighting the acute shortage of donors in Manipur, she emphasized the significant gap between the demand for organs and tissues and their availability, largely due to low rates of deceased donation. She underscored that organ and tissue donation offers hope and a renewed chance at life for patients in need.

     

    She informed participants that transplantation services are available in Manipur, including at two government institution, Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Imphal, and Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, as well as two private hospitals. She stressed that the buying and selling organs and tissues is strictly prohibited and punishable by law. Addressing common myths, she reassured participants that organ and tissue donation does not cause disfigurement and that donor dignity is always maintained.

     

    The session concluded with Ms. Priya thanking attendees for their active participation and encouraging them to pledge for organ donation. She reiterated that a single donor can save multiple lives, making organ donation one of the most meaningful contributions to humanity. Informational FAQs were distributed, reaching approximately 35 individuals.
