Interactive session with the Nurses on the Concept of Organ Donation at RGGGH

  • MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness programme in the Neurology ICU at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH) for the 2nd and 3rd year nursing students from Madras Medical College on 6th March 2014.  Ms. Sunitha A.T, Mr. Prakash and Mr. Jeyabal Transplant Coordinators participated in the session and explained about the concept of organ donation and role of nurses in maintaining the potential Brain Dead patient.

     

    Ms. Sunitha, spoke on the concept and importance of organ donation.  She also covered the following topics:

    • Importance of organ donation
    • Myths on organ donation
    • Types of donations – live and deceased donation
    • Difference between Natural Death, Coma and Brain Death
    • Organs that can be donated in cardiac death and drain death
    • Eye donation
    • Preservation time of organs
    • Maintenance of brain dead patient
    • Importance of Donor card

     

    At the end of the session she also mentioned about the transplant coordinator training course conducted by MOHAN Foundation.

     

    8 nursing students participated in the programme and all expressed their support.
