Interactive Session on Organ Donation conducted at Nirmaan Organisation,Telangana

  • On 17th August 2022, MOHAN Foundation conducted an interactive session at Nirmaan Organisation. Dr Bhanu Chandra and Ms. Srividya Subramanian were the key resource. The session was organised by Mr.Mohan Nistala, District Chair, Rotary – Organ Donation.

     

    Nirmaan Organisation, or My India, is a voluntary organization formed by the students of Birla Institute of Technology and Science in Pilani, It focuses on providing education and employment opportunities to economically challenged people of the society.

     

    Ms. Srividya.S started the session by asking a few introductory questions on Organ Donation and then introduced MOHAN Foundation to the participants and kept the audience engaged throughout the session. The following were discussed in detail:

    • Organ donation and its need in the society
    • When and how does organ donation take place
    • Organs that can be donated during life and after death
    • Brain death
    • Role of MOHAN Foundation
    • Eye donation

     

    Dr Bhanu Chandra spoke about the future of Organ Donation in India and gave a detailed session on grief counselling and asked a few interesting questions to the participants and also explained the importance of family consent in Organ Donation.

     

    Over all the session was very interactive where participants enthusiastically contributed to the discussion and asked many queries. To name a few:

    • How do Kidney Transplants occur?
    • Ways to promote Organ Donation at rural areas

     

    Dr. Bhanu Chandra and Ms. Srividya.S motivated the students to pledge to donate organs and explained the importance of a donor card.

     

    Close to 100 students attended the session and 90 students pledged to donate organs. Donor cards and brochures were distributed at the end of the session.
