Information Desk and Awareness Session conducted at IGGMCH, Nagpur on World Organ Donation Day

  • On 13th August 2021,on the occasion of World Organ  Donation Day, MOHAN Foundation in association with Transplants – Help the Poor Foundation set up an information desk and conducted an awareness session on organ donation at the Indira Gandhi Government Medical College & Hospital (IGGMCH) Nagpur. Ms Prarthana Dwivedi (Transplant Coordinator) was resource person and had arranged Rangoli Competition for hospital staff.

    Many queries related to the subject were answered by Ms Prarthana Dwivedi. In her talk she explained the following topics:

    • Difference between cardiac death and brain death
    • Organs and tissues that can be donated in both these cases
    • New advances like hand transplantation
    • Tissue donation (skin, eyes and bones)
    • Organ donation that can happen in case of brain death and number of lives that can be saved
    • Examples of successful transplant stories, articles and news about green corridor
    • Myths related to organ donation and the corresponding facts
    • Importance of carrying a donor card and sharing the wish to be an organ donor with one’s family

     

    Around 89 people attended the awareness session and about 28 people including staff took pledge to become Organ Donor. The information desk was manned outside the OPD section and banners supporting organ donation were also displayed. Around 200 students and staff visited the stall and were given information brochures on organ donation.

    We thank Dr Vaishali Shelgaonkar (HOD Anaesthesia), Dr P Thakre (PSM Department) and Dean Dr Mamta Solone for inviting us and supporting the cause of organ donation.
