Indo Tibetan Border Police supports Organ Donation

  • On 20th September 2014, MOHAN Foundation was invited by the Indo Tibetan Border Police Force (ITBP), Iddayapatti, Madurai to deliver a talk on Organ Donation to their trainees. This initiative was by Dr. Naresh Kumar and Dr. Naresh Babu, Medical Officers at the Indo Tibetan Border Police Force training camp. Dr. Christopher Barry, Advisory Board Member of the MOHAN Foundation and Ms. Kavitha, Marketing Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation represented MOHAN Foundation.


    The ITBP's mission is to develop professionals for policing Indo - China border and to inculcate the following values and ideals in the trainees to meet the present and future challenges.

    • Integrity and impartiality of the highest order.
    • Professional excellence in managing the indo- china border
    • Respect for human rights and humanitarian laws.
    • Spirit of supreme sacrifice and service to the nation.


    The first session was organized for the teachers of a primary school within the ITBP camp, where 8 teachers including Principal attended the session. Dr. Christopher Barry spoke on Concepts on Organ Donation, following that Ms. Kavitha spoke on importance of carrying a Donor Card.

    The second session was organized for the trainees of ITBP. The session started with a welcome address by Dr. Naresh Kumar, Medical Officer, ITBP, Madurai. Following that Dr. Christopher Barry spoke on “Healthy Organs”. He mentioned how to keep our organs healthy, importance of doing yearly medical check up and introduction on Organ Donation.

    After Dr. Barry’s speech, Ms. Kavitha explained about Organ Donation, facts on Organ Donation, need of Organ Donation, Statistics, Toll free helpline, importance of Donor Card. Few real time stories were shared at the end of the programme, to make them to understand how importance of human life.


    Nearly 110 trainees and others attended the session and all of them showed their support by signing the donor card.  Many questions were raised like

    1. Is the donor card universally accepted?
    2. Tamilnadu Network for  Organ sharing – what is it?  
    3. Whom to contact in emergency?
    4. Is a family donor card available?
    5. Can a patient  who has had jaundice donate organs?
    6. Who cannot donate?


    All the queries were answered by the representative. The programme came to end by a  Vote Of Thanks rendered by Dr. Naresh Kumar.
