IIM, Kozhikode’s Walkathon on War on Waste “Recycling and recovery of waste” includes organ donation

  • On 18th Dec 2013, Calicut Mini Marathon an initiative by the students of Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Kozhikode, invited Mrithasanjeevani, Kerala to give a talk on organ donation in inaugural ceremony of their Walkathon. The venue of the Walkathon was Info Park Campus, Kakkanad, Cochin.

     

    Calicut Mini Marathon is a student run initiative by the students of IIM, Kozhikode to mobilize social change and generate awareness about the various social issues plaguing the society. The marathon has championed various causes over the years. This year the marathon takes a step forward to promote organ donation.

     

    The inaugural ceremony started with lighting the lamp. Prof. Abhilash Nair, IIM, Calicut gave an inaugural speech. Mr. Padmakumar, Inspector General of Police, Cochin and Mr. K N Ajay Kumar, Asst Development Commissioner addressed the gathering.  After that Mr. Johnson, Project Manager, MOHAN Foundation deputed to Mrithasanjeevani, Kerala delivered a talk on Organ Donation.

     

    During the talk he covered the following topics: importance of organ donation, types of donations – live and deceased donation; difference between coma, cardiac death and brain death, organs that can be donated and shared the experience of previous donation at Lakeshore Hospital.

     

    Nearly 250 students, faculties and IT employees participated in the programme. Followed by the talk, the walkathon was started. The Marathon (Race day) is going to be held on 23rd Feb 2014 in Calicut. For Registration and even details, visit www.calicutmarathon.com
