Hemalatha Memorial Talk inspires nursing students to take up Organ Donation - Day 1

  • On 2nd March 2015 MOHAN Foundation and Cadaver Transplant Programme organised an organ donation awareness talk for the  students of School Of Nursing, Madras Medical College Chennai, as to tribute to Ms. Hemalatha Tutor /Ex. Staff Nurse Government General Hospital  for tissue donation. The aim for the event is to motivate the young nurses about to take her as a role model and to walk the cause. 173 students of 1st year nursing attended the program held at their college. 

     

    The day was started with the introductory speech given by Ms. Kavitha Marketing Coordinator about the programme followed by it Ms. Sunitha Transplant coordinator given a talk on Hemalatha’s work during her talk she shared about how Hemalatha was self motivated on increasing the number of cornea donation in the intensive medical care unit at her hospital and she also mentioned that she is the role model for others to work for the cause. Ms. Shanthi staff in charge shared her experience on working with Hemalatha.   


    Ms.Kavitha explained the student’s nurses about the concept of organ donation and also explained about the Early Identification of the potential donor, difference between cardiac arrest and brain death, cause of brain death, stages of grief and role of nurses in the concept of organ donation. 

     

    A documentary Film was played for the students to understand the concept and importance of organ donation.

     

    Mr. Prakash and Mr. Jeyabal Transplant Coordinators, conducted a Quiz as a warm up for the students to participate in the competition. 

     

    The students participated in the competitions of slogan, poetry writing and poster designing as well as rloe plays.  The highlight of the event is the role play performed by the students on based on the stages of grief. Mrs Rajalakshmi Project Officer Cadaver Transplant Programme  judged the Best Posters, Slogan and Play and  these awards were given to the students.  

     

    The Vote of thanks given by Ms. Kavitha for the support given by the management and students for making this event a great success. Refreshments were distributed to the students.
