On May 2, 2026, the Hardas High School Alumni Association, in partnership with the Triratna Buddhist Federation, hosted an enlightening session titled "Gift of Life" at Naglok, Bhilgaon, Nagpur, to mark the celebration of Buddha Jayanti. The session focused on raising awareness about organ, tissue, and body donation. MOHAN Foundation was invited to lead the event.
Ms. Veena Wathore, the key speaker from MOHAN Foundation, eloquently explained the significance of organ and body donation through the lens of Dan-Parimeeta, an important concept of giving in the Buddhist tradition. She highlighted the noble act of donation as a form of compassion and generosity. Further, she introduced the audience to the foundation’s initiative called "Anudaan," aimed at making organ transplants affordable for underprivileged patients. Ms. Wathore also provided detailed insights into the organ transplant registration process, including the listing on the organ transplant waiting list, and clarified the differences between organ and body donation laws and their respective procedures.
The attendees actively engaged in the session and raised questions, particularly about the government transplant centres in Nagpur, associated costs, and the organ allocation process. The session saw the presence of esteemed members of the Triratna Buddhist Federation, including Chairman Dhammachari Suvirya, along with Dhammacharis Nandakirti, Nityashri, Samyak, and Shantiprabh, who are prominent figures in the Buddhist community.
The program commenced with introductory remarks and prayers led by Ms. Asha Thul, President of the Hardas High School Alumni Association. The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks by Ms. Mandakini Chandankhede. The success of the session was made possible through the dedicated efforts of active alumni members—Rajan Shende, Sangeeta Dange, Mahendra Dange, Pramod Belekar, Gautam Nitnanavre, Rajesh Bhivagade, Kavita Shende, Jyoti Bhowate, Vijay Shelare, Pournima Shelare, Diles Dhargave, Vijay Ramteke, and Chaya Janbandhu.
Approximately 85 participants attended the session, demonstrating considerable interest in organ donation awareness and its importance in saving lives.
This session not only educated participants about the critical need for organ donation but also reinforced the spirit of giving and compassion championed by Buddha Jayanti.
