General Public Awareness on Organ Donation on Shivaji Jayanti at Pratap Nagar, Nagpur

  • On 19th February 2020, MOHAN Foundation in association with Transplants – Help The Poor Foundation conducted an awareness session on organ donation at Pratap Nagar, Nagpur on the occasion of Shivaji Jayanti celebration.

    The resource persons for the session were Ms Veena Vathore (ZTCC) and Ms Prarthana Dwivedi who represented MOHAN Foundation and Transplants – Help The Poor Foundation.

    Both of them gave an insight on organ donation with a few presentations and short films. Their concepts elaborated upon included the why, how and when of organ donation, challenging the myths and misconceptions related to organ donation, brain death and the importance of family members' consent in fulfilling the wish of those registered as organ donors.

    Ms Prarthana presentation focused on skin donation, eye donation and Whole Body Donation. She also focused on public perception about organ donation and discussed various tools and ways in which awareness can be created amongst the public. Some motivational and educational films were also screened to enhance the participants understanding and insight into the subject.

    Crowd asked the following were a few questions asked:

    • Can we donate Whole Body after organ donation?
    • How to donate whole body after death?
    • How to prepare waiting list of patients?

    Ms Prarthana answered all the queries promptly. Many of them also expressed interest in pledging their own organs and Whole Body Donation. The session which began around 10:30 am was attended by 70 participants. About 50 pledges were taken and few were taken online.
