Dr. Barry Presents at KNOS Deceased Donor Liver Transplant Symposium

Updated on Saturday, October 4, 2014
  • Dr. Christopher Barry, US transplant surgeon and Advisory Board Member of MOHAN Foundation, was the keynote speaker at the Mrithasanjeevani/Kerala Network for Organ Sharing (KNOS) conference on “Deceased Donor Multi Organ Transplantation Programme” in Trivandrum on September 26th, 2014 at Mascot Hotel, Trivandrum.

Dr. Barry presented two lectures: “Guidelines for the Establishment of a Successful and Sustainable Deceased Donor Liver Transplant Programme” and “Deceased Donor Organ Allocation in the United States and Recommendations for KNOS”. The event was an initiative of the Government of Kerala and included speakers and participants from the upper echelons of deceased donor transplant activity in Kerala, including Dr. Ramdas Pisharody (Principal of the Government Medical College in Trivandrum and State Convenor of the Deceased Donor Multi Organ Transplant Programme), Dr. Noble Gracious (Nodal Officer KNOS) and Dr. Philip Thomas (Director of Multi Organ Transplant, Lakeshore Hospital, Kochi), just to name a few among 50 participants.

There were lively and intelligent discussions regarding how to move forward with deceased donor liver transplantation in Kerala and many important consensus decisions were made by representatives of all of the Kerala transplant stakeholders. Many of these decisions will likely result in Government Orders that facilitate and clarify deceased donor liver transplant activity throughout the entire state of Kerala.
