On 20 November 2014, Dr. Christopher Barry gave a lecture to the SMS Neurology Division entitled “Brain Death Declaration and Donor Management”. Dr. Barry, who is the Transplant Consultant to the Government of Rajasthan and Advisory Board Member to the MOHAN Foundation, was invited by SMS Neurology Chief Dr. CM Sharma to address 50 members of the Division, including resident doctors and senior staff. His lecture covered the importance of brain death declaration in organ donation and deceased donor transplantation, the physiology of brain death, how to perform a brain death exam and how to maintain donors in stable condition prior to organ recovery. The talk was enthusiastically received with many questions and obvious support for brain death declaration at SMS.
