Critical care staff understand the process of deceased organ donation in Nagpur

  • Neuron Brain, Spine & Critical Care Centre, Dhantoli, Nagpur conducted awareness of organ donation talk for the Nursing & Critical Care staff of the Hospital on 3rd January 2015. Dr. Ravi Wankhede Centre Head of MOHAN Foundation, Nagpur delivered an audio-visual talk. Dr. Chandrashekhar Pakhmode, Dr. Manisha Pakhmode, Dr. Sandeep Kharode, Dr. Sushant Admane and other senior staff of the Hospital were also present during the talk. At the outset Dr. Kharode introduced and welcomed Dr. Wankhede.

     

    The audio-visual talk gave an insight about the complete subject. He stressed the importance of understanding Brain death, who could be potential donors of several life saving organs. He said he was very hopeful that Neuron a specialty Hospital dealing with Brain injury cases has the potential to provide service in this regards. More than 30 Nurses attended the session. Dr. Wankhede stressed the need for the Hospital to apply for NTORC status, thus facilitating organ retrieval. He also advised the Hospital administration to display audio-visuals in the waiting area thus educating the general public too.

     

    Dr. Wankhede assured the Hospital to provide the services of Grief Counsellors and Transplant Coordinators if need be to talk to the relatives of the patients.

     

    After the talk, Dr. Ravi Wankhede interacted with the Management staff & Nurses; during the interaction they raised the queries:

     

    1. Whom to contact after brain death?
    2. How much time it takes for organ donation?
    3. Will the MOHAN Foundation be able to provide assistance as and when there are cases of Brain death?
