Critical Care Workshop conducted at Surana Sethia Hospital, Chembur on 30th Jan 2020

  • MOHAN Foundation was invited to conduct Critical Care Workshop Brain Death & Organ Donation at Surana Sethia Hospital, Chembur on 30th Jan 2020. The faculty members were Dr Prashant Borade (Head of Critical Care Global Hospital), Dr Sujata Ashtekar (Consultant ROTTO SOTTO Mumbai)    Dr Jimmy, Mrs Jaya Jairam (Project Manager) and Mr Nitin Tambe (Transplant Coordinator).

    Registration desk was handled by Mr Nitin Tambe for Critical Care Workshop. About 160 delegates were registered including Doctors, Nurse Educators, ICU Nursing staffs, Paramedics and Social workers. All the delegates were shared Manual booklet on Brain Death & Organ Donation.

    Dr Jimmy introduced & briefed program and introduced all the speakers. The session began with lighting the lamp by the hands of Trustee & Owner of Surana Sethia Chain of Hospitals Mr Surana & Mrs Surana at the beginning of ICU Workshop at Chembur Branch Hospital.

    Dr Jimmy held an awareness session and introduced Mohan Foundation, its mission, vision and philanthropy. She introduced the concept of Organ and tissue donation. She told types of death viz. Cardiac and Brain Death and the organs and tissues that can be donated. She elaborated the procedure about bone donation. She also described the procedure of tissue donation (skin & eyes). Then Mr Nitin Tambe explained about the religious barrier and myths related to organ donation.

    Dr Prashant Borade spoke about Brain stem death testing including Brain reflexes & Ancillary testing. A video about Simulation film on Brain stem death testing was shown to the participants to get the in-depth knowledge about the Ancillary testing. He also highlighted the important points that help in maintenance of Donor Optimization.

    Dr Sujata Ashtekar spoke about the Legal Framework of Deceased Organ Donation objectives and functions. She elaborated the key functions & responsibilities of ROTTO SOTTO Mumbai. She informed about the Digital transformation of Patient Registration Process.

    After the tea break Mrs Jaya Jairam showed participants a Film on Approaching Family for Organ Donation – A film on Good Approach & Bad Approach. After film was played participants was explained the mistakes they can do while doing grief counseling and abstain them to happen.
