Colourful Rangoli Competition culminates on World Kidney Day

  • The 3rd edition of Rangoli Competition with the theme of Organ Donation  ‘Azhiyadha Kolangal III’. “அழியாதகோலங்கள் III started on Feb 10, 2022 in collaboration with Chennai Metro Rail.  This year it was an online competition for students and adults.  The competeition was conducted by the team from Chennai of Ms Preetha  Baskar and Dr. Hemal Kanvinde. The participants registered online, send in 3 pictures of their work as it progresses and a short write up on the theme. Participants were allowed to work in teams of two.

    Around 263 participants registered in 152 teams. Overall 102 designs were submitted. There were submissions from Tamil Nadu, Odisha, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Punjab Telangana and other states.  In a way it became a National event.  There were two rounds of screening to get to the ten best. The judges of these screening were Ms. Nalini Sulekha and Ms. Kavitha Rathi from Chennai with a background of fine arts as well as understanding of the theme.   

    The ten best submissions were invited for a zoom based interactions for the finals.  This was done on March 10, 2022 the World Kidney Day. The judges were Ms. Lalitha Raghuram, MOHAN Foundation Country Director and Ms. Bhavana Jagwani Trustee as well as Convenor of MF JCF.

    The designs reflected their thoughts on organ donation. Each shortlisted candidate was asked to speak of the design and the judges had a few questions. The judges appreciated the work of the candidates and the beautiful way they had depicted the social cause.  The candidates expressed their understanding as the Gift of Life, Bouquet of Life, some depicted the earth and if a person receiving an organ gets his world back, another had designed a woman as a taking care of the family health as well as an organ donor, another had made as if entire India should be taking a pledge and saving the patients in Mother India.

    In the feedback many of the participants said that they learnt about organ donation and kidney health  in order to prepare for the rangoli designs. MOHAN Foundation thanks all the participants, the judges for their time.  We also thank Chennai Metro Rail for their support with prize money for this activity and wish that their partnership will continue.
