Chennai Mission Association of St. Antonys’ Church promotes Organ Donation at their church in Perambur

  • The Chennai Mission Association of St. Antony’s Church, Perambur, Chennai have been organising a series of awareness programs on organ donation for their member churches and for their congregation. They invited MOHAN Foundation to deliver the first talk on 29th June 2014.

     

    The programme started with a welcome speech given by Mr. Jomon, member of the parish.  Following that Ms.  S. Saranya, Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation, Kerala and Ms. Kavitha. S, Marketing Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation, Chennai represented MOHAN Foundation. Ms. S. Saranya, Kerala delivered a talk on Organ Donation.

     

    The talk concentrated to following topics: Concepts of Organ Donation and brain death, Types of Donors, Organs that can be donated after natural and brain death, Importance of Donor Card, Statistics of organ donation for Tamilnadu and Kerala, Toll free helpline number, Tamilnadu and Kerala Organ Registry.

     

    She ended her talk by sharing few real stories, by which the whole group was moved. Few people raised questions like:

     

    1. I am an Organ Donor and if I don’t donate, will it be a problem?
    2. Does MOHAN Foundation get anything by organ donation?
    3. Is there a charge for organs?

     

    All the queries were answered.  Nearly 50 people attended the session and all promised to take this message home and join hands for noble cause.
