On August 1, 2025, Mr. Gabriel Pereira, Organ Donation Ambassador with the MOHAN Foundation, unveiled a banner reading “Donate Organs, Save Lives” at the Mapusa Municipal Council, Goa.
The unveiling ceremony was attended by Chairperson Priya Mishal, council members, and office staff. Organised to commemorate Indian Organ Donation Day, the event also drew members of the press and the public, who gathered to hear a short address by Gabriel.
In his talk, Gabriel highlighted the significance of the occasion, noting that the Transplantation of Human Organs Act (THOA) was passed in July 1994, and just a month later, on August 3, 1994, a team led by Dr. P. Venugopal performed India’s first successful heart transplant at AIIMS, New Delhi.
He went on to describe the MOHAN Foundation’s work in Goa, particularly its efforts to promote awareness through talks and information desks. Gabriel also requested the Chairperson to allow another awareness session at the municipality for officers and staff, to which she agreed.
The event was attended by approximately 100 people, and flyers addressing frequently asked questions on organ donation were distributed to all present.
