Awareness talk on Organ Donation in NSS camp at Management of Institute Sawangi Meghe College, Hingna, Nagpur

  • On 23rd January 2023 an NSS camp was conducted at Sawangi Meghe College, Hingna, Nagpur.  MOHAN Foundation was invited for an awareness session to be conducted for students by the NSS officer of Sawangi Meghe college, Mr. Ragesh Ghode. Mr. Bulu Behera, transplant Coordinator at MOHAN Foundation conducted the awareness talk. Program was held at College premises.

    Approximately 60 participants were sensitized, 12 students signed up for organ donation. Rest of the students were motivated to have a discussion with their family members on organ donation. Mr. Rajesh Ghode enthusiastically participated in spreading awareness regarding organ donation. Students were educated on the following questions:

    • What is organ donation and who can donate organ?
    • What is living organ donation & which organs can be donate?
    • What is deceased donation and which organs and tissues can be donate?
    • What are different types of death and in case natural death which tissues can be donated?
    • In case of brain death which organs and tissues can be donated?
    • What are the causes of brain death?
    • Difference between coma and brain death.
    • Time factors of organ retrieval as well as transplant.
    • Whom to contact for organ donation?
    • Age limit for organ donation?
    • Role of NOTTO, ROTTO, SOTTO, ZTCC for organ donation.
    • Information about Organ transplant Act 1994.
    • Information about hand and leg transplant.
    • Information about organ transplant priority list.
    • Information about MLC case and Non MLC organ donation.
    • Myths and facts related organ donation.
    • Historical prospective related to organ donation.
    • Importance of donor card.
    • Request to visit MOHAN Foundation website and help line number for donor card.

    • What is bone marrow?
    • Can a person donate liver while alive?
    • What is the difference between natural death and brain death?
