  On November 24^th Ms. Jaya Jairam from MOHAN Foundation was invited to conduct an online awareness session on Organ Donation for Inner Wheel club of Bangalore. There was around 40 participants. Ms. Virina Subbiah, President of the club initiated the session and introduced the speaker Ms. Jaya Jairam.

  Ms. Jaya Jairam introduced MOHAN foundation and shared about its activities, vision and mission.

  Topics discussed in this session were as follows:

  • Concept of organ and tissue donation.
  • Types of death

  1. Circulatory death
  2. Brain death

   

  • Brain death declaration through tests and procedures of deceased organ donation and live organ donation.
  • Procedures of donation of eyes, skin, bonesand other tissues.
  • The status of organ donation in India and their requirements vs donation rates.
  • Myths on organ donation with their reality check.
  • Types of organ donation and who can be a donor.
  • No age constraint in donating organs.
  • Importance of Donor card and how one can become an organ donor.
  • Details of organ donation Helpline No.18001037100 was shared with the participants.

   

  It was an interactive and motivating session. Ms. Jairam gave her own life example and explained how organ transplant can save lives.

  Questions that were asked at the end of the session

  • Can diabetic patients donate organs after their death?
  • Do Kidney recipients have to take medication life long?

   

  Feedback from the participants:

  “The talk was very touching and the concepts were discussed with great clarity”.

  They requested Ms. Jairam to share the online pledge link. They assured that they were all convinced to pledge their own organs and support organ donation.
