Awareness talk for Police

  • MOHAN Foundation – Chennai, in collaboration with Cadaver Transplant Programme, Tamil Nadu organized an Organ Donation Awareness Program for the police personnel of Rajiv Gandhi Govt General Hospital (RGGGH). It was held at the RGGGH out post on 2nd April, 2013. A group  9 police personnel in all grades like constables, head constables and sub-inspectors attended the program. 

     

    Mr. Johnson, Transplant coordinator of MOHAN Foundation, Chennai addressed the police personnel and explained to them the various concepts related to deceased organ donation. Since the police are involved in conducting inquests in medico legal cases, the following procedures were highlighted during the talk:

     

    • Importance of time during organ donation
    • How to prepare an inquest for deceased organ donor  
    • Government Order 86 of 2011 regarding procedures and forms for post-mortem.

     

    The main topics discussed during the programme were:

     

    • Role of police personnel in organ donation procedures 
    • Brain Death- how it is different from natural death and coma
    • Organs that can be donated after brain death and natural death
    • Transplantation of Human Organs Act 1994 and Rules related to declaration of brain death and TN Government orders
    • Role of Transplant Coordinators in Hospitals
