Awareness talk at ICMR-National Institute for Research in Tuberculosis, Chennai

  • On July 21, 2025, an organ and eye donation awareness program was conducted at the ICMR-National Institute for Research in Tuberculosis (NIRT) in Chetpet, Chennai. The seminar was conducted at the Robert Koch Conference Hall and attended by over 80 employees of NIRT. The resources persons from MOHAN Foundation were Ms Sangeetha K, Project Executive and Dr Hemal Kanvinde, Q&A Officer

    The event started with a presentation by Ms. Sangeetha, who emphasized the significance of eye donation in combating corneal blindness. She highlighted the pressing need for corneal donations and showcased a video illustrating the transformative impact of such contributions on individuals' lives.

    Following this, Dr. Hemal Kanvinde, introduced the work of MOHAN Foundation and its activities and delivered an informative session on organ donation. She explained the concepts of circulatory and brain death, detailing the organs that can be donated posthumously. Dr. Hemal, also presented current statistics on organ donation in India and provided guidance on how individuals can pledge to become organ donors.  She also spoke on Voluntary Body donation. Discussion after the talk was on the data security of a pledge, scams in organ donation, exploitation of poor for an organ. 

    Around 60 people picked  donor cards. The session concluded with a touching poem on organ donation recited by Mr. Ramakrishnan, Technical Officer at ICMR-NIRT, leaving a lasting impression on the attendees. MOHAN Foundation extended their gratitude to the Director for the opportunity, Mr. Anbalagan for coordinating the session and expressed appreciation for Mr. Ramakrishnan's heartfelt contribution, which underscored the profound impact of organ donation.
