Awareness session on Organ Donation for students of Pharmacy Dr. MGR Educational and Research Institute

  • The Faculty of Pharmacy and the NSS Unit of the Dr. MGR Educational and Research Institute invited MOHAN Foundation for a sensitization talk on organ donation. The online session was held on 21 Jan, 2022 at 3 pm and was conducted by Dr. Hemal Kanvinde, Quality Assurance Officer of MOHAN Foundation. We thank Ms. S. Gejalakshmi, Vice Principal, Faculty of Pharmacy for the organizational support. 

     

    The session began with a Welcome Address by Dr. N. Harikrishnan, Principal, Faculty of Pharmacy followed by a Special  Address by Dr. P. S. Rajakumar, Prof, CSE and NSS Coordinator of the Institute. Both stressed on the need for awareness and the need for organs. They also asked the students and faculty to understand the topic and support the cause. 

     

    Dr. C. N. Hemalatha, Associate Professor, Faculty of Pharmacy introduced the speaker. Dr. Hemal then started her talk and spoke about the following topics: 

    • Need for organs
    • Who and what can be donated
    • Understanding brain death
    • Common myths on organ donation - with a poll
    • The Transplant Law
    • The working of the organ transplantation system in Tamil Nadu
    • Statistics of organ donation
    • Activities to promote organ donation
    • Donor Pledge and Donor Card

     

    She also highlighted the work of MOHAN Foundation. A video explaining  Brain Death and a recipient video were played. 

     

    The session ended with a Vote of Thanks from  Dr. M. Geethanjali, Asst. Professor, Faculty of Pharmacy. 98 students and staff attended the zoom session and 356 viewed it on their YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=50OFuaFWCEQ).
