Awareness session at Bal Bharti School, New Delhi

  • On August 05, 2014 an awareness session on "Brain death and Organ Donation" was organized by Times of India at the of Bal Bharti Public School, Ganga Ram Marg, New Delhi, auditorium in association with MOHAN Foundation. The session was taken jointly by Ms. Pallavi Kumar and Dr. Muneet Sahi.

     

    Established in 1944, by the Child Education Society, Bal Bharti Public School, Ganga Ram Marg is the first to be established among its other branches in various parts of the country. The philosophy of the society is embedded in Sanskrit quotation, "Hanso Nayatu Na Pragyamah"the English translation of which is, to acquire wisdom and ability to comprehend. Its symbol shows a child mounted on a flying swan urging all of us to surge ahead like a swan, towards the path of progress.

     

    Ms Kumar started the session by asking "How many of them had heard about organ donation and brain death and what they understood of it. She then explained the concept of organ donation and who could be an organ donor, she also presented the statistics of the deceased organ donation worldwide and emphasized that the main reason for such appalling deceased donation rate in the country was due to lack of public awareness and that the take away from the session would be the message of organ donation. She also spoke about some general myths related to organ donation and clarified them with facts.

     

    Following that Dr. Sahi explained the causes and concept of brain death in a very simple and easy to comprehend way.

     

    Towards the end, a brief question answer session was kept wherein the students asked questions which were answered by Ms Kumar and Dr Muneet.

     

    The session was attended by close to 350 students and many teachers.
