Awareness programme on Organ Donation at Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School, Porompat, Imphal

  • On September 16, 2022 MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness programme on organ donation for Higher Secondary students at Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School (SHHSS), Porompat, Imphal. Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Programme Officer, MOHAN Foundation was the speaker and Ms. Thoidingjam Udayini Khuman, Transplant Co-ordinator, MOHAN Foundation accompanied her.

     

    The session was conducted in the presence of Mr. Wangkhem Ravichandra Singh, Director, Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School, along with the teachers and higher secondary students of the school.

     

    Ms. Monica was welcomed by the students and the teachers. She began the session by introducing MOHAN foundation, its objectives and visions. Following which the basic concepts of organ donation and transplantation were explained with the help of a PowerPoint presentation.

     

    Points explained in detail:

    • Organ donation and its need in the society
    • Transplant waiting list in India.
    • Facts and myths on organ donation.
    • Cornea donation.
    • Difference between brain death and coma.
    • Laws enacted for transplantation.
    • Importance of the donor card.
    • The importance of family consent in the process of organ donation.

     

    The session was interactive where participants enthusiastically contributed to the discussion and raised queries. Thereafter, Ms. Udayini distributed FAQs on organ donation to all the participants for better understanding of the concepts of organ donation.

     

    Ms. Monica and Ms. Udayini extended their gratitude to the teachers for providing the opportunity. Lastly, the director extended his support in organising and participating in more such awareness activities.

     

    Close to 55 participants attended the session.
