Awareness on organ donation for staff of Software Incubator Pvt. Ltd

  • On 20th September, 2014, an awareness session on organ donation was organized for the employees of Software Incubator Pvt Ltd, Trivandrum.

     

    Software Incubator is a software company. They monetize digital footprints and their aim is to provide insights on technology, process, strategies, market insights and effective program management across the enterprise. Among the employees they have various groups like social group, recreation group; Time management group etc. The awareness programme was conducted by the social group. The program was started by 2.00 pm at the conference room.

     

    Ms. Saranya S, Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation deputed at Trivandrum Medical College, represented KNOS and addressed the gathering. Ms. Saranya explained about the importance of deceased organ transplantation programme in India, Types of donation, organs donate after  Cardiac death and brain death, Age criteria of the donor, procedure involves in Brain death certification, procedure of organ donation after brain death, brain death certification and the Importance of Transplantation of Human Organ Act 1994. This was followed by a live display of KNOS website and registration process of KNOS and after the awareness session a footage covered by Mathrubhumi News on cadaver donation happened in Trivandrum SUT Hospital was shown to the audience.

     

    The audience had many quires pertaining to organ donation such as:

    • How to donate organs after death?
    • List of Transplant hospitals?
    • How to register for organs in KNOS?
    • How much cost for organ transplant in Government Hospital and Private Hospital?
    • Whether a brain dead donor can donate organ to his/her relative?
    • How to maintain a brain dead donor in ventilator?
    • Is there any delay in organ retrieval and body handovering procedure?
    • If something happens to me in future, how KNOS will know about it?

     

    There were 80 participants and all the participants pledged their organs by signing the donor cards. The awareness session was concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms Nisha, Software Engineer.
