Awareness for Dialysis patients and their families on Deceased Organ Donation

  • On 13th Nov 2019, MOHAN Foundation was invited by Dr Apeksha Pradhan (Admin & Transplant coordinator) from Bhatkivedanta Hospital, Mira Road for giving awareness about the Deceased Organ Donation to their dialysis patients and their families.

    Dr Ankit Mody (Consultant Nephrologist & Renal Transplant Physician) started the session and explained about procedures of Live Kidney Transplant.

    Dr Jimmy held an awareness session and introduced MOHAN Foundation, its mission, vision and philanthropy. She then introduced the concept of Organ and tissue donation. She also explained the types of death viz. Cardiac and Brain Death and the organs and tissues that can be donated. She elaborated the procedure about bone donation which was new topic for the public. She also described that tissue donation (skin & eyes) can happen even at home. She then discussed about Organ Donations that can happen in case of Brain Dead case and number of lives that can be saved by giving the examples of successful transplant stories articles and news about green corridor which was somewhat familiar to the gathering. She also explained about the religious barrier and myths related to organ donation. She also elaborated the law of Transplantation of Human Organs (Amendment) Act, 2011.

    Dr. Jimmy lastly showed a video about Green Corridor which used to transport organs in case of Deceased organ donation. Also they were invited to join in our volunteering program. Details of Organ donation Helpline No. 1800 103 7100 was also shared.After the session was over Kidney Donor shared their experience about living their life very healthy after donation. Also Kidney Recipient shared his positive experiences of his life before and after the transplant surgery.

    About 30 people attended the awareness session. About 6 pledges were taken & few were filled online. We thank Dr Apeksha Pradhan, Management of Bhatkivedanta Hospital and Mr Amit from INTAS for inviting us and supporting the cause of Organ Donation.
