Mr. Ramu V, an Organ Donation Ambassador from Hyderabad organised an awareness session on Organ Donation Day on 13th August 2021. It was a part of the Organ Donation Day celebrations. 30 people from his office, friends and relatives attended the session. The event was moderated by Dr. Hemal Kanvinde, Quality Assurance Officer of MOHAN Foundation.
Dr. Hemal introduced the work of MOHAN Foundation to the audience. The concepts of organ donation were explained by Dr. Viritha Krishnamurthy, Organ Donation Ambassador from Hyderabad. She touched upon the following topics in her talk:
Following her talk, Dr. Bhanu Prakash, Senior Transplant Coordinator from Hyderabad explained the process of deceased organ donation in a hospital with the help of a recent donation. The case was heart touching and many of the listeners were moved by the story. He explained some aspects of grief counselling through the case.
Discussion after the talk were around the opt-in and opt-out systems, organ allocation, brain death, cardiac death and coma, what can a common man do to promote organ donation. A school principal present among the audience promised to help to take the cause to her teachers.
