Awareness Talk on Organ Donation Conducted at RIMS, New OPD

  • On January 30, 2026, MOHAN Foundation, in association with the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, conducted an organ donation awareness talk at the New OPD, RIMS, as part of its ongoing public education and outreach initiatives.

     

    The session was led by Mr. Bidyananda Laishram, Senior Program Executive, and Mr. Elangbam Paringanba Singh, Program Executive, MOHAN Foundation.

     

    The programme was organised in coordination with Ms. Chongtham Pritam Devi, Medical Social Worker and Assisting Transplant Coordinator, RIMS, who supported the smooth conduct of the session.

     

    Mr. Bidyananda initiated the session by introducing MOHAN Foundation and highlighting its role in promoting ethical organ donation and transplantation across the country. He explained the concept and significance of organ donation, emphasizing its life-changing impact. He also shared examples from Manipur and provided information on centres involved in organ donation and transplantation in the state.

     

    During the session, common myths and misconceptions related to organ donation were addressed. Mr. Bidyananda emphasized that one deceased organ donor has the potential to save up to eight lives. He also outlined key provisions of the Transplantation of Human Organs & Tissues Act (THOA) 1994, reiterating that the buying and selling of organs is a punishable offence under the law. The session concluded with guidance on the process of pledging for organ donation.

     

    Informational leaflets on organ donation were distributed among the participants. Approximately 50 individuals were reached through the awareness session.
