On July 18, 2023, SOTTO Haryana in association with MOHAN Foundation, conducted an awareness session on organ donation at Civil Hospital, Sonipat.
Dr. Krishan Kumar, Civil Surgeon, Civil Hospital, Sonipat, opened the session with a welcome address and introduced the speakers, Ms. Renu Kumari of MOHAN Foundation, Ms. Deepti Kumari, and Mr. Rajesh Kumar of SOTTO Haryana. He also said in his welcome address that there was widespread ignorance regarding organ donation.
Ms. Deepti Kumari gave a comprehensive presentation on organ donation, covering topics such as the THO Act of 1994, the significance of deceased organ donation, the various categories of donations, and the distinctions between coma, cardiac death, and brain death.
Ms. Renu Kumari introduced the MOHAN Foundation to participants and explained in detail the organ donation registration process, the organ waiting list and registry, and the role and contribution of SOTTO Haryana in the field of organ donation.
Some queries put up by the participants:
1. What is the process to donate eyes?
2. How to register a person who requires a kidney?
3. Who should be contacted following the death of a registered individual?
During the session, Ms. Bimla Rani, Senior Nursing Officer, Civil Hospital, Sonipat, shared her personal experience of donating her mother's eyes, inspiring the entire family to pledge for organ donation. This heartfelt true story served as a great source of motivation for the entire group.
Mr. Rajesh Bhar, Consultant IEC, SOTTO Haryana, distributed the information pamphlets and thanked Dr. Krishan Kumar for his support which made the awareness programme possible.
Close to 50 people attended the session. 11 individuals filled up the organ donation Form 7 (Organ Pledging Form) of the Transplantation of Human Organs & Tissues Rules, 2014.
