Awareness Session on Organ Donation at the Urology OPD, AIIMS Rishikesh

  • On February 17, 2026, the Division of Organ Transplant at AIIMS Rishikesh, in collaboration with MOHAN Foundation, conducted an organ donation awareness session in the Urology OPD waiting area.

     

    The session was facilitated by Mr. Arun Sharma, Program Executive, MOHAN Foundation, Uttarakhand. It was attended by patient attendants, residents, nursing staff, and support staff, including bearers and housekeeping personnel, from the Department of Urology.

     

    Mr. Arun Sharma introduced MOHAN Foundation, outlining its mission, vision, and ongoing initiatives in the field of organ donation and transplantation. He delivered a comprehensive presentation covering key aspects such as eligibility criteria for organ donation, living and deceased donation, the concept of brain death and its distinction from coma, eye and skin donation procedures, an overview of the Transplantation of Human Organs Act, 1994, living kidney transplantation facilities at AIIMS Rishikesh, and common myths and facts associated with organ donation.

     

    The session was interactive, with participants raising common queries such as who can become an organ donor, the difference between brain death and coma, whether organ donation affects funeral practices, and the process for registering as an organ donor. These questions were addressed in detail to dispel misconceptions and provide clarity on the subject.

     

    Mr. Arun underscored the critical need for organ donation in India and encouraged participants to initiate informed discussions with their families, friends, and colleagues to help foster a culture of awareness and acceptance.

     

    Participants expressed appreciation for the initiatives undertaken by AIIMS Rishikesh and MOHAN Foundation and conveyed their willingness to further disseminate awareness within their respective communities.

     

    Approximately 80 individuals attended the session.
