On February 10, 2026, the Division of Organ Transplant at AIIMS Rishikesh, in collaboration with the Rishikesh Eye Bank, AIIMS Rishikesh and the MOHAN Foundation, conducted an organ donation awareness session in the Urology OPD waiting area.
The session was conducted by Mr. Arun Sharma, Program Executive, MOHAN Foundation (Uttarakhand), and Mr. Sandeep Goswami, Technician, Rishikesh Eye Bank, AIIMS Rishikesh. The session was attended by patient attendants, residents, nursing staff, and support staff, including bearers and sweepers, from the Department of Urology.
Mr. Sandeep Goswami initiated the session by introducing the Eye Bank at AIIMS Rishikesh and spoke about the importance of eye donation. He explained the concept of corneal donation and highlighted its significance in restoring vision and improving lives. He also briefed participants on the role of the Eye Bank in facilitating corneal retrieval and transplantation.
Following this, Mr. Arun Sharma introduced the MOHAN Foundation, outlining its mission and objectives. He provided a detailed overview of organ donation and transplantation, covering key topics such as eligibility criteria, organ donation during life and after death, brain death and its distinction from coma, eye and skin donation procedures, the Transplantation of Human Organs Act, 1994, living kidney transplantation facilities at AIIMS Rishikesh, and common myths and facts related to organ donation.
He emphasized the urgent need for organ donation in India and encouraged participants to discuss the subject with their families, friends, and colleagues to help foster a culture of awareness and acceptance.
Participants appreciated the efforts of AIIMS Rishikesh and the MOHAN Foundation and expressed willingness to continue conversations on organ donation within their communities.
Approximately 50 individuals attended the session. Notably, two participants pledged to donate their organs on the spot.
