Awareness Session on Organ Donation at Punjab Red Cross Society Sector 16 Chandigarh

  • On June 15, 2026, SRDF – MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness session at Punjab Red Cross Society, Sector 16, Chandigarh, to sensitize First Aid students on the importance of organ donation.

    Ms. Preeti Gupta initiated the session by introducing MF-SRDF along with its mission and vision. She emphasized organ donation as a true “gift of life.”

    The session covered a comprehensive scope of organ donation:

    • Concept of organ donation and its lifesaving impact.
    • Status of organ donation in India compared with global statistics, highlighting the gap between requirement and donation rates.
    • Opt-out policy for further clarity.
    • Explanation of live related vs live unrelated donation.
    • Differences between natural death, brain death, and coma.
    • Dispelling myths about organ donation with factual information.
    • Sharing real-life transplant stories to inspire participants.
    • Importance of carrying a donor card and steps to pledge for organ donation, encouraging family discussions.

    The session became highly interactive, with students asking questions and receiving clear, satisfactory answers. Around 20 students from Punjab and Chandigarh attended, many showing keen interest and encouragement to register with NOTTO to live on in the lives of others through organ donation.

    MF-SRDF extended heartfelt gratitude to Punjab Red Cross Society for their assistance and for providing the opportunity to conduct this meaningful and life-affirming session.
