The MOHAN Foundation held an awareness session for the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus conductors at the NandNagri bus depot on December 05, 2025. The event was conducted by Ms. Simran, Programme Officer accompanied by Ms. Annie, Programme Officer, MOHAN Foundation, NCR.
Ms. Simran began the session by providing an introduction of the Foundation before speaking about organ donation. The Transplantation of Human Organs Act, 1994, brain death, eye donation, living and deceased donation, eligibility of the donor, and the myths surrounding organ donation were all covered in Ms. Simran’s thorough presentation.
She continued by outlining the distinctions between brain death and a coma, emphasizing the medical criteria used to confirm brain death. To help the audience better understand the concept, she presented a brief video illustrating the diagnostic process of brain death. The session concluded with a discussion on real-world organ donation case, allowing participants to consider how these medical determinations impact families and healthcare decisions. Furthermore, discussions on how high the transplantation charges are, and how families struggle to pay the medical costs especially from poor economic background helped wrap the presentation.
As the session came to an end, participants raised concerns such as, “The transplantation costs are so high, poor families sell all their belongings to get an operation done”. After addressing the concerns, Ms. Simran urged all the participants to learn more about organ donation, highlighting the importance of being informed as such knowledge can be valuable at any time.
Around 30 participants attended the session and 06 participants also came forward and pledged to donate their organs on the NOTTO website.
