Awareness Session on Organ Donation at Govt. Model Senior Secondary School, Mauli Jagran, Chandigarh

  • On 24th December 2018, MOHAN Foundation was invited by the NSS Program Officer Mr. Sanjeev to conduct an awareness talk on Organ Donation for their NSS Students at Govt. Model Senior Secondary School, Mauli Jagran, Chandigarh. Approximately 70 students from class 12th and 2 teachers attended the session.

     

    Mr. Sanjeev, NSS Program Officer addressed the students and gave a brief introduction on Organ Donation to their students.

     

    Students were given an introduction & presentation on the importance of Organ donation and tissue donation by Ms. Neha Sharma.

     

    In her talk she explained the following points: -

    • Organ donation types and who can be a donor
    • The status of Organ Donation in India and their requirements vs donation rates
    • She challenged 5 myths with 5 facts on Organ Donation
    • Difference between natural death and brain death
    • Age is not a constraint in donating their organs.
    • Real life stories of an organ transplants being shared with the participants
    • Importance of Donor card
    • To pledge their organs they can register at MOHAN Foundation
    • MOHAN Foundation's mission & vision

     

    All the students got motivated to support the cause of organ donation and around 30 students pledged for organ donation. 

    Few questions that were asked by the students

    1. How skin can be donated?
    2. Why is the family so important in case of Organ Donation?

     

    All the questions were answered at the end and participants expressed that they would love to share their wish with their family members and also raise awareness on Organ Donation.
