On 21st December 2014, MOHAN Foundation was invited by Mr. Ravi Nayak of Make a Modern Society (MMS) to conduct an awareness session on organ donation at the blood donation camp organized by MMS at Babu Jagjivan Ram Bhavan, Kothapet, Hyderabad.
Make a Modern Society (MMS) is a community development organization working since 2010 to bring awareness among the society about environmental protection and other social causes especially educating children in slums and professional training of the rural and unemployed youth in association with Telangana Vidyarthi Chaitanya Vedika.
Dr. Koti Reddy clearly explained the purpose, necessity, importance, complex issues in deceased organ donation, concept of brain death, cultural and religious barriers, THO Act and myths related to organ donation.
There were about 500 participants and volunteers that were distributed donor cards and information brochures. The participants and volunteers positively reacted to the idea and have promised to spread awareness about organ donation in the future in the communities that they are engaged. There were about 100 units of blood that was donated by the participants to the Red Cross Blood Bank.
