On April 16, 2025, the Division of Organ Transplant at AIIMS Rishikesh, in collaboration with MOHAN Foundation, conducted an organ donation awareness session at the 7-Med Dialysis Centre. This marked the seventeenth session in a series designed to sensitize nursing officers at AIIMS Rishikesh about organ donation.
The session was led by Mr. Sanchit Arora, Project Leader at MOHAN Foundation, along with Mr. Deshraj Solanki and Mr. Vrishabh Panchal, Transplant Coordinators at AIIMS Rishikesh. It was attended by the nursing staff of the 7-Med Dialysis Centre.
Mr. Arora introduced MOHAN Foundation and outlined its mission, followed by a comprehensive discussion on organ donation. Key topics included:
• The importance and eligibility for organ donation
• Differences between living and deceased donors
• Organ donation during life and after death
• Brain death vs. coma, and declaration practices
• Eye and skin donation, including corneal preservation
• The Transplantation of Human Organs Act, 1994
• Living kidney transplant services at AIIMS Rishikesh
• Steps to support the cause
• Myths vs. facts around organ donation
He stressed the critical need for organ donation in India and encouraged participants to initiate conversations with their families. He also recommended watching Aye Zindagi on Zee5 for further awareness.
Mr. Deshraj elaborated on the hospital’s brain death committee and donor optimization protocols, sharing a recent case to illustrate the process.
Around 10 nursing officers attended the session and acknowledged its value in deepening their understanding and ability to contribute to the organ donation movement.
