Awareness Session on Organ Donation Conducted for NGO's of Chandigarh & Punjab

  • On 2nd October 2021, MOHAN Foundation was invited to conduct session on organ donation, titled “Jiyo Marnoupranth” for the Office bearers of 14 NGO's of Chandigarh & Punjab. The session was organised to celebrate Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The session was initiated by Ms. Ekta Nagpal. Mr. Sudhir Dewan, Director, MOHAN Foundation Chandigarh was invited as a Keynote Speaker. Ms. Neha Sharma was the resource person.

    At the beginning of the session, Ms. Ekta Nagpal welcomed all the participants and introduced Mr. Dewan and invited to begin the session.  Mr. Dewan explained the basic concepts of organ donation and transplantation. He also informed that MOHAN is not someone’s name but an acronym.

    To engage the participants in an open discussion, he explained about Living and Cadaver donation and why should we pledge our organs.

    The following topics were explained in detail:

    • Organ donation and its need
    • When and how does organ donation take place
    • Organs that can be donated during life and after death
    • The transplant waiting list in India
    • Brain death
    • Difference between brain death and coma
    • Contraindications to organ donation
    • Transplant Law
    • Role of MOHAN Foundation
    • Organ donation Myths and Facts
    • Eye Donation

    At the end, Ms. Ekta Nagpal gave vote of thanks. She said the session was very fruitful. She also said after today’s session many participants will come forward and pledge for organ donation.  Around 100 participants attended the session and 65 donor cards were distributed to the participants.
