  • On May 21, 2025, an awareness session on organ donation was conducted at St. Mary's Multipurpose High School ,Vashi, Navi Mumbai. Representing MOHAN Foundation, Ms. Sakshi and Ms. Manika visited the school to conduct the session. As the program commenced, the discussion began with a general question to the audience about organ donation , but to our surprise, only three to five hands were raised from the crowd of approximately 450 students. This preliminary response set the tone for the session, showcasing the gravitas and need for awareness. The audience included both male and female students from the school, and the members of the academic team were actively engaged throughout. Ms. Manika, currently an intern at MOHAN Foundation, participated in the session accompanying Ms. Sakshi and assisted in coordinating the crowd. This also served as Ms. Manika’s first awareness session, making it a striking and remarkable experience for her.

Ms. Sakshi provided an in-depth explanation distinguishing between cardiac death and brain death, shedding light on the organs and tissues that could be donated under each circumstance. The session swiftly became interactive, as students began to ask thoughtful and insightful questions, including:

    • Can a person with HIV or AIDS donate organs?
    • What is the procedure for organ donation if someone passes away at home?

These queries reflected a growing curiosity and a strong desire among students to understand both the ethical and medical aspects of organ and tissue donation.

The session concluded with a unique and spirited “army-style” applause from the learners, charged with vigour and enthusiasm, making the experience both memorable and impactful. Ms. Sakshi and Ms. Manika were felicitated by army officers Mr. Dubey and Mr. Rajiv in recognition of efforts. They were honoured for their contribution towards spreading awareness on such a socially significant issue.
