  • On May 28, 2025, MOHAN Foundation, in association with Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), organized an organ donation awareness session for residents of Kshetri Bangoon Mayai Leikai, Imphal-East, Manipur. The session was led by Ms. Laishram Monica Devi, Program Coordinator – North East and Project Lead – Manipur, and Mr. Bidyananda Laishram, Senior Program Executive at MOHAN Foundation.

Organized as part of ongoing activities for the Urban Health Sanitation and Nutrition Day (UHSND) under the National Health Mission (NHM), the event was conducted in collaboration with Ms. W. Premlata, Nurse-in-Charge at the Kshetrigao Urban Primary Health Centre (UPHC). Postgraduate medical students from JNIMS also contributed, delivering informative talks on diabetes. Mr. Gailian Kamei, Transplant Coordinator at JNIMS, was also present during the session.

Ms. Monica aligned her presentation with the discussions on diabetes, highlighting how it can lead to organ failure. She then introduced the concept of living and deceased organ donation, emphasizing that organ donation can save lives and significantly improve the quality of life for recipients. She also addressed common cultural myths and misconceptions about organ donation, providing factual clarifications to dispel these beliefs.

Ms. Monica encouraged participants to spread awareness within their communities. She distributed FAQs on organ donation, translated into the local language for better accessibility, and concluded with a strong call to action.

Approximately 40 participants attended the session, which successfully raised awareness, addressed prevalent misconceptions, and inspired many to consider becoming organ donors and advocates for this lifesaving cause.
