On June 24, 2025, An Organ Donation Awareness Session was conducted at the Traffic Training Institute, Byculla, Mumbai, with the aim of educating participants about the importance and process of organ donation. The session witnessed the participation of approximately 90 attendees, including traffic personnel and institute staff.
The awareness talk was conducted by Ms. Sakshi, who provided an in-depth explanation of key concepts related to organ donation. She began by explaining the difference between cardiac death and brain death, helping the audience understand the medical criteria used to determine organ donation eligibility.
Ms. Sakshi then elaborated on the distinction between solid organs (such as the heart, liver, kidneys, and lungs) and tissues (such as corneas, skin, and bones), emphasizing the different timelines and procedures associated with each type of donation.
An important part of the session focused on the concept of Green Corridors — special traffic routes created for the rapid and unhindered transportation of organs. Ms. Sakshi highlighted the crucial role of the traffic police in facilitating these life-saving journeys by ensuring minimal delay during transit.
She also discussed the time sensitivity of organ transplants, underlining how various organs have specific time limits within which they must be transplanted to remain viable.
The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, where participants clarified their doubts and concerns. Encouragingly, 10 individuals came forward and pledged to donate their organs, marking a significant step in spreading awareness and support for this noble cause.
