An Organ Donation Awareness Session was conducted on June 25, 2025, at the AIM Police Academy in Chembur, Mumbai. The session aimed to educate the students about the importance, process, and legal aspects of organ donation. Approximately 50 people attended the program.
The session was led by Ms. Sakshi, who provided a comprehensive overview of organ donation, beginning with the difference between cardiac death and brain death — two key medical definitions that determine donor eligibility. Ms. Sakshi also distinguished between solid organs (such as heart, liver, lungs, and kidneys) and tissues (such as corneas, skin, bones and heart valves), explaining their different donation and preservation timelines.
A special focus was placed on the role of police officers in Medico-Legal Cases (MLC). Ms. Sakshi emphasized that in such cases, police cooperation is essential for timely clearance and documentation, which can directly impact the success of organ donation and transplantation.
She also explained the concept of Green Corridors — dedicated routes designed to ensure fast and unhindered transport of organs. Police personnel play a vital role in facilitating these routes by managing traffic and coordinating with hospital and transplant teams to ensure minimal delays.
Throughout the session, Ms. Sakshi encouraged active participation and addressed questions from attendees. The session concluded with a deeper understanding among the police trainees of how they can contribute meaningfully to the life-saving process of organ donation.
