An awareness talk on organ donation at Paruthikkuzhy, Trivandrum

  • On 26th February 2014, a seminar on organ donation was organized by Mrs. B.B. Sujatha, Uzhamanckal Grama Panchayath (UGP) President  to sensitize people in her Grama panchayath. Mrithasanjeevani, Kerala Network for Organ Sharing was invited to conduct the seminar on organ donation. The programme was held at Shri Chakrapani auditorium, Ayyapankuzhy, Paruthikuzhy, Trivandrum.

     

    The event was started with the welcome speech delivered by M. Rasheeda Beevi, Development standing committee chairperson UGP . The event was inaugurated by Mrs. B B Sujatha, UGP  President. On her inaugural speech, she pointed that importance of organ donation and how the ward members can work to promote organ donation in her panchayath.

     

    Mr. P. V. Aneesh, Transplant Coordinator, MOHAN Foundation, deputed to Mrithasanjeevani, Trivandrum Medical College, Kerala conducted the seminar. On his talk, he explained the Concepts of Organ Donation which involved Brain Death and Coma, Organs  and tissues can be donated, Transplantation of Human Organ Act 1994, Functions of Brain Stem, Importance of Donor card, Mrithasanjeevani, KNOS activity, KNOS website and organs can be donated after natural death and brain death.  It was an interactive session where people raised few queries on Organ Allocation, whether the uterus can be transplanted or not?

     

    More than 400 members were present for the seminar. All members pledged to donate their organs. The seminar ended with the vote of thanks rendered by Mr. Baiju, Vice-President, UGP.
