To commemorate International Women’s Day, MOHAN Foundation organised competitions in Rangoli, Pot Painting and Elocution on the topic of Organ Donation. The event was held on 8th March 2013 at Anna Adarsh College for Women, Chennai. The participants were from six different nursing colleges and women’s colleges in and around Chennai. There were 14 teams each for rangoli and pot painting and 11 contestants for elocution. Students came up with interesting and creative ideas to depict the concept of organ donation. The elocution was on the Role of youth in organ donation. The speakers were emphatic in saying that young people today have the power to convey the message of organ donation passionately and powerfully. Using the social media, interacting in forums and competitions such as this was a way of getting the message across. The best three in each category were awarded medals. Dr. A. Judie, Principal, MMM College of Nursing graced the occasion as Chief Guest. She spoke inspiringly about donating her maternal uncle’s eyes and the need for each one to take a pledge to donate one’s organs. Many of the students picked up a Donor Card at the end of the function.
