Organ Donation Awareness at Regional Transport Office

  • Mr. Sharad Jighkar, Regional Transport Officer, Giripeth, Nagpur invited MOHAN foundation to conduct an awareness session on organ donation. This was conducted on 5 June 2018 for drivers waiting in the training hall.

     Mr. Bulu Behera, Transplant Coordinator MOHAN Foundation delivered a talk on Organ Donation. In his talk he explained for following points:

    v  What is Organ Donation, who can donate, when does it happen

    v  The need for donation

    v  Brain Death, Natural Death and Coma

    v  Myths related to Organ donation

    v  Deceased donation cases in Nagpur

    v  Scenario of organ donation in India and in Nagpur

    v  Importance of Donor card, Helpline number and Website

    It was a very interactive session. 38 drivers were present at the talk and 4 of them signed consent form and took donor cards.

    The drivers asked the following questions:

    • What is the difference between coma and brain death?
    • Is Bone marrow transplant possible in Nagpur?
    • What is the cost for liver transplant?
