A team from the MOHAN Foundation, comprising Dr. Sunil Shroff (Managing Trustee), Ms. Pallavi Kumar (Executive Director), Prof. Deepak Gupta (Professor -Department of Neurosurgery, AIIMS Delhi) and Ms. Laishram Monica Devi (Programme Officer) visited Tripura from January 28 to 30, 2025.
The team visited to conduct training sessions as part of the workshop titled “Strengthening Organ Donation & Transplantation,” organized by AGMC & GB Pant Hospital in partnership with the MOHAN Foundation. In addition, the team participated in a high-level stakeholders' meeting, led by the Hon'ble Chief Minister of Tripura in Agartala, to evaluate the state’s preparedness for deceased organ donation and develop a strategic roadmap.

Workshop on Strengthening of organ donation & transplantation at Hall No. IV of Pragna Bhaban
For the first time in Tripura, a workshop was organized to introduce the concept of organ donation to key stakeholders. The introductory session was led by Dr. Sankar Chakraborti, Medical Superintendent & HOD, AGMC & GB Pant Hospital, who provided an overview of the institution’s journey in living donor renal transplantation and emphasized the need for deceased organ donation. This was followed by an address by the Secretary, Health & Family Welfare Department, Government of Tripura.
Key speakers at the workshop included Dr. Sunil Shroff, Prof. Deepak Gupta, and Ms. Pallavi Kumar. The session also featured a hands-on activity on the deceased donation pathway, engaging participants in practical learning.
A panel discussion on “Deceased Organ Donation in Tripura: The Way Forward”, moderated by Dr. Sunil Shroff, provided insights into the challenges and opportunities in the region.
The training session was attended by stakeholders from various sectors, including the health department, law enforcement agencies, police department, and media cell, with close to 60 participants taking part in the discussions.

The meeting was conducted under the chairmanship of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tripura, Dr. Manik Shah. It began with an opening address by Shri Kiran Gitte, Secretary, Health & Family Welfare Department, Government of Tripura, who welcomed the MOHAN Foundation team and all stakeholders. He also expressed gratitude to Shija Hospitals & Pvt. Ltd., Imphal, for its support in the living donor organ transplant program and for facilitating MOHAN Foundation’s work in Imphal.
Shri Kiran Gitte provided an overview of the healthcare system in Tripura and its connectivity with various other parts of the country. This was followed by a presentation by Dr. Sunil Shroff, in which he outlined MOHAN Foundation’s journey and elaborated on the approach, requirements, and roadmap for initiating and implementing a deceased organ donation program in Tripura.
In his address, the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Dr. Manik Shah, emphasized the state’s readiness and the necessity of a deceased organ donation program. He assured full support from the Government to advance this cause.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, with a shared commitment from all parties involved.
