On October 11, 2014 MOHAN Foundation conducted an awareness session on organ donation for the members of Shri Atmanand Jain Sabha, New Delhi.
Shri Atmanand Jain Sabha is a Jain organisation operating out of Vallabh Vihar, Rohini. In commemoration of the birthday of a Jain guru, the organisation held a medical camp. The camp held various health amenities under the same roof for the members as well as informative kiosks and presentations such as the one Dr. Muneet Kaur Sahi presented on organ donation.
The session began after Mr. Ashok Jain introduced the speaker and spoke on the importance of organ donation in the present times. In the course of the talk, concept of organ donation, brain death, difference between cardiac death and brain death was covered and a video clip explaining the concept of brain death was shown for better understanding of all those present. A participant asked if an individual from a Jain community would be given priority if the donor was also from the same community. The speaker answered that such provisions are not applicable as per the Transplantation law (THO Act).
The session was attended by 11 people and 50 donor cards were picked up.
