Successful completion of 4th batch of Angels of Change Volunteers Training for Organ Donation at Bal Bharti Public School

  • The fourth batch of Angels of Change Volunteers Training for Organ Donation that began on December 5, 2016 with students of Bal Bharti Public School, Ganga Ram Hospital Marg, New Delhi concluded on May 17, 2017. Each of the participants conducted a public awareness session on organ donation on their own thereby fulfilling the criteria to be awarded a certificate certifying them as ‘Angel of Change Volunteer,’ trained by MOHAN Foundation.

     

    20 students from classes VIII-XI undertook the training. Ms. Sandhya Makkar Thapar (School Interact Club Coordinator) from the school’s side organized and coordinated the sessions.

     

    On January 31 & March 23, 2017, students presented mock presentations in groups of 2-5 and every presentation was adjudged based on the content, validity and accuracy of the information given to the participant. There were 5 groups and the details of the participants are as follows:

     

    • Group 1: Riya Kapoor & Mishika Bansal from Std IX
    • Group 2: Sparsh from Std VIII, Shilpa Manna, Tanya Aggarwal & Mansi Bisht from Std XI
    • Group 3: Aayushi Sachdev, Maanay Bansal, Palak Chauhan & Kinjal Aggarwal from Std VIII
    • Group 4: Nayonika Arora, Fatima, Aditi Anand, Arpita Sharma & Kanika Bisht from Std XI
    • Group 5: Ishmeet Kaur, Ishika Aggarwal & Shivansh from Std X, Kanika Aggarwal & Yashika Mehta from Std VIII

     

    On March 29, 2017, groups 1 & 2 addressed primary and middle school teachers of Bal Bharti Public School. The presentations covered basic concepts of organ donation and transplantation and each student spoke on his/her part. The concepts covered were – 4 why’s of organ donation i.e. what/why/who and when can you donate, brain stem death, THO Act 1994, cornea donation & myths and facts on organ donation.

     

    On May 15, 2017, groups 3 & 4 conducted public awareness session on organ donation at Regional Transport Office, Raja Garden, New Delhi. The session was organized by one of the students’ mother who works in the Transport Authority and was attended by the staff and public coming to the transport office. Students confidently handled the queries raised by the participants barring few technical queries which were addressed by the Foundation’s representative. A short film on brain stem death was shown followed by distribution of flyers and donor cards to those who wished to sign up as organ donors.

     

    On May 17, 2017, group 5 performed a skit on organ donation during the morning assembly in school premises. The main message of the skit was to promote organ donation and the story, direction and acting was coordinated and conducted by the students.

     

    In the end, Mr. L. V. Sehgal (Principal, Bal Bharti Public School) & Dr. Muneet Kaur Sahi gave away certificates to all the students who successfully completed their training.

     

    Dr. Muneet in her address praised the students for their sincere efforts and hard work of the last 5 months and congratulated them for becoming ‘Angels of Change’ Volunteers. She also acknowledged Ms. Sandhya Thapar’s contribution without whose support and guidance the students would not have been able to complete the training successfully.

     

    Mr. L.V. Sehgal’s concluding words, quote unquote,’“Such program has been a life-changer for  many students - it has helped students to think about the real world outside the school rather than just academics.Their thought process has been forever matured and channelised into something productive and relevant to the times. I thank you for coming in and allowing my students to have such an experience which they will forever remember.” He also assured support to help MOHAN Foundation promote this program in other schools.
