Students of Matru Sewa Sangh Institute of Social Work learn about Organ Donation

  • On 11th January 2020, MOHAN Foundation was invited by Mrs. Payal Chamatkar, the NSS in-charge of Matru Sewa Sangh Institute of Social Work to address the students on the topic of organ donation and transplantation.

    Mr. Bulu Behera Transplant Coordinator was the speaker at the event that took place in the Deoli Gram Panchayat, Nagpur.

    Mrs. Payal Chamatkar, an Associate Professor at the Institute delivered the welcome address. Around 60 students were present in the program that lasted for an hour. Mr. Bulu Behera, in his talk, introduced MOHAN Foundation and explained about organ and tissue donation.

    Mr. Behera presented in detail, a wide range of topics, including the Transplantation of Human Organs Act, listing the offences and penalties related to malpractices in organ donation.

    The following topics were discussed in detail:

    • What is organ failure and its causes?
    • Who can donate organs?
    • When can organs be donated?
    • What is living donation?
    • Natural death and brain death
    • Brain death and coma
    • Age criteria to donate organ
    • What is the time period to donate organ?
    • Myths and misconceptions around organ donation
    • How to register as an organ donor?
    • What is the role of hospitals in organ donation?

     

    All their doubts were clarified by Mr. Bulu Behera. 12 participants registered as organ donors and received their donor cards, while a few others opted for online registration. MOHAN Foundation is thankful to MSSISW for the opportunity.
