MOHAN Foundation Conducts Organ Donation Awareness at the Medicine OPD, RIMS

  • On July 3, 2026, MOHAN Foundation, in association with the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal, conducted an organ donation awareness talk at Medicine Out Patient Department (OPD) of New OPD Block, RIMS. The session was conducted by Ms. Moirangthem Priya Devi, Program Executive, MOHAN Foundation, Imphal and she was accompanied by Mr. Elangbam Paringanba Singh, Program Executive, MOHAN Foundation, Imphal.

     

    Ms. Priya began the session with an interactive discussion to assess the participants' existing knowledge and attitudes towards organ donation. She then delivered an informative presentation on living and deceased organ donation, explaining their differences, significance, and life-saving potential. She highlighted that a single deceased organ donor can save up to eight lives through organ transplantation.

     

    She also addressed the legal aspects of organ donation, outlining the key provisions of the relevant legislation. Emphasizing the ethical and legal framework governing organ donation, she explained that the buying and selling of human organs is strictly prohibited and constitutes a punishable offence under the law.

     

    At the conclusion of the session, Ms. Priya guided the participants through the process of pledging for organ and tissue donation. She also shared the toll-free helpline and the contact details of the MOHAN Foundation Manipur office for any organ donation-related enquiries. Informational leaflets were distributed to all participants at the end of the session.

     

    Close to 60 participants attended the programme and gained valuable insights into organ and tissue donation, including its importance, legal framework, and the process of becoming an organ donor.
