Organ Donation Awareness at Chitrakala Mahavidyalaya, Nagpur

  • On January 10th 2020, MOHAN Foundation was invited by Mr. Pankaj Itkelwar, the NSS In- charge of Chitrakala Mahavidyalaya in Lakshmi Nagar, Nagpur for an awareness event on organ donation and transplantation. Mr. Bulu Behera, Transplant Coordinator from the Foundation was the speaker.

    Mr. Pankaj Itkelwar, an Associate Professor at Chitrakala Mahavidyalaya welcomed Mr. Behera and the audience. The programme began by 4 PM and around 50 people were in attendance. Mr. Bulu Behera, in his talk, introduced MOHAN Foundation and explained about organ and tissue donation.

    Mr. Behera presented in detail, a wide range of topics, including the Transplantation of Human Organs Act, listing the offences and penalties related to malpractices in organ donation.

    The following topics were discussed in detail:

    • What is organ failure and its causes?
    • Who can donate organs?
    • When can organs be donated?
    • What is living donation?
    • Natural death and brain death
    • Brain death and coma
    • Age criteria to donate organ
    • What is the time period to donate organ?
    • Myths and misconceptions around organ donation
    • How to register as an organ donor?
    • What is the role of hospitals in organ donation?

     

    All their doubts were clarified by Mr. Bulu Behera. 5 participants registered as organ donors and received their donor cards. MOHAN Foundation is thankful to Chitrakala Mahavidyalaya and Mr. Pankaj Itkelwar for the opportunity.
